  • Reading scripture leads to praising God, leads to prayer, leads to preaching the truth to the world.
-

💡Big Idea

God commands us to praise, then pray, then preach.

Takeaways and Next Steps

  • Do you have trouble praying? Praise Him, and soon it will be quite easy to pray. Trouble praying? Read the Psalms, and pray them to God. These will stir praises in your heart to God, which will stir prayer to God.

📖Bible Passage

Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him! Tell of all his marvelous works. Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice. Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more. [[Ps-105#v2|]][[Ps-105#v3|]][[Ps-105#v4|]]

Points

  • There are three commands given to the people of God in the first verse of Psalm 105. these are expanded upon in v. 2-4
    • Give thanks to Yahweh: praise
    • Call on His name!: prayer
    • Make his doings known among the peoples: preaching
  • We ought to do these 3 things, in this order.
    • Most modern churches today, do not follow this order.
      • Perhaps they follow preaching, then praise, then prayer.
      • But how can we speak of the greatness of God (preaching) if we ourselves are not in awe of Him (praise). How can we preach with courage and conviction, overcoming our failures without pleading to God for His favor (prayer).
  • We are living in a day and age when Christians are just about as miserable a people as you’d ever want to come across.
    • Christians will find more joy out of a football game on Sunday than from hearing the preaching of God’s Word.

God’s Order in His Blueprint For His Church

Christ Commands His Church to Praise Him

  • Singing praise to the LORD ought to be the testimony of the people of God.
    • Ps 95.1 Oh come, let’s sing to Yahweh. Let’s shout aloud to the rock of our salvation!
    • Ps 96:1-2 Sing to Yahweh a new song! Sing to Yahweh, all the earth. Sing to Yahweh! Bless his name! Proclaim his salvation from day to day! [[Ps-96#v2|]]
    • Ps 98:4-6 Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises! Sing praises to Yahweh with the harp, with the harp and the voice of melody. With trumpets and sound of the ram’s horn, make a joyful noise before the King, Yahweh. [[Ps-98#v5|]][[Ps-98#v6|]]
    • Ps 99.3 Let them praise your great and awesome name. He is Holy!
    • Ps 100.4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name. Ps-100#v4|Ps 100.4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.
    • Ps 101.1 I will sing of loving kindness and justice. To you, Yahweh, I will sing praises. I will sing of loving kindness and justice. To you, Yahweh, I will sing praises.
  • We are so focused on what we are doing, what is happening in the world, in politics. We ought to be focused on what the LORD is doing, the wonderful things He has ALREADY DONE.
  • Case study: George Mueller was known for regularly praying. We would think that this must have come easy to him, but he said that each morning it would be difficult for him to praise God.
    • So he would start by simply reading and praying the Psalms. By simply reading God’s Word, he would be moved and soon praising God would be easy for him.
  • If you praise the LORD then this will naturally turn in to prayer.

Christ Commands His Church To Seek Him in Prayer

  • Prayer is impotence reaching out to omnipotence.
    • Praying to God requires humility. It requires us to realize and acknowledge that we need God.
    • ⭐: There is no way in which you can become spiritually independent. There is no day where you will not need prayer.
      • Every temptation is too much. Every trouble is too weighty. Every load is too big.
      • But nothing is to big for Christ.
        • Yet even Christ prayed.
        • Christ prayed in submission to His Father.
          • Your will be done. That is the foundation of Christian contentment.
  • There are many Christians who lament what is happening in this world. If we spent less time lamenting and more time praying think of what could be done.

Christ Commands His Church To Preach His Word

  • Preaching is the great work of the Church.
  • We are living in a day and age where the world has done everything in its power to circumvent preaching in the way that God established.
    • God looks for preachers. That’s the great need of our day.
      • The only great preacher is a man who knows how to pray. A preacher must pray.
      • Exod 33.15 Moses said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.
