📖Bible Passage
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.
Points
- the disciples must have been devastated when Jesus was killed.
- They had invested so much into His ministry.
- They were so disappointed. They thought that Jesus would deliver Israel.
- They couldn’t believe that Jesus would rise from the dead,
- even though He predicted this many times.
- even though they saw Him right in front of their eyes
- But when they finally realized that Jesus was in fact resurrected, they were glad when they saw Him.
- without sight of Jesus we are doomed.
Spiritual Life Begins When the Holy Spirit Opens Our Eyes to Behold Christ
- 2 Corinthians 4.4 in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.
- God is the one who brings sight to us. It is God who created light:
- Genesis 1.3 God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
- Isaiah 45:22-24 “Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by myself. The word has gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and will not be revoked, that to me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath. They will say of me, ‘There is righteousness and strength only in Yahweh.‘” Even to him will men come. All those who raged against him will be disappointed. [[Isa-45#v23|]][[Isa-45#v24|]]
- Hebrews 2.9 But we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.
- The world mocks:
- Christ and His message
- us when we say that Christ has spoken to us through His word.
Christ Is Altogether Lovely Because He Is Risen from the Dead
- Unlike anyone else, Jesus is risen from the dead:
- Every other leader and prophet dies, but Christ is risen and lives forever.
- When Jesus died, it was the separation of a human soul from a human body.
- But the deity of Christ did not and could not die, nor be separated from God.
- We do not serve a dead savior.
- Jesus is not on a cross, nor is He in a tomb.
- Jesus lives, today, right now.
- Jesus lives for us and in us.
- Colossians 1.27 to whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- Spiritual life starts when you get your eyes on Christ.
- That means that those who have never seen Christ are blind and dead.
- There are even those who are in the church who have called themselves Christians for several years and yet they have never truly seen Him because they are blinded to Him.
- Why do you think it is that teenagers grow up in the Church and yet turn away as soon as they leave for college? It shows that they were living in darkness and hadn’t seen Him the whole time.
- We need to look to Jesus.
- Hebrews 12.2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- 2 Corinthians 3.18 But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
-
This Joy Leads to the Joy of Glory Forever
- The disciples were glad when they saw the risen Lord.
- Do you really think that we will be less glad when we see the risen Lord?
- He is our Savior.
