Divine Simplicity and the Christian Life: Sam Parkison and Ronni Kurtz - Credo Podcast | Podcast on Spotify
- 5:20: What is Divine Simplicity?
- “Informed, dogmatic way of affirming the shema” which states that the LORD is one.
- God does not have a body.
- Unlike a human who is body and soul.
- God is not composed of any parts.
- There is no distinction between God and His attributes.
- God is not the sum total of His attributes.
- Divine Simplicity does not mean that God is easy to understand.
- Divine Simplicity means that God is not complex (meaning made of many parts).
- 9:24: Analogy:
- If you lost a pinkie, you would still be you.
- This means that the pinkie is not essential to you. The pinkie does not define you. Whatever you are is not defined by your pinkie.
- This is completely unlike God.
- There is nothing in God that you could “cut off” and yet still have God.
- All that is in God is God.
- God is not compositional. God is not composed of parts.
- ⭐: It is His essence “to be”.
- Strictly speaking, His act of existence is not something He has but something He is.
- This is why God revealed Himself as I AM.
